By Valerie Maldonado
I seek rest
From the daily grind
From the relentless assault
On my overfilled mind
From the negative press
I seek rest
and solace and respite
From the vile news
We receive each night
I need an escape
A way to deviate
From hate filled speech
And the words that reach
A feverish state
When one needs to be right
I seek rest
And tranquility
A moment of stillness
A day of quiet
In a world suffering illness
Of every sort
Ailments that need cures
Problems that need solving
I seek rest
From an ever evolving
Onslaught of anxious
events, tragedies, and
Senseless death
I seek rest
In the arms of my Creator
Through prayer
And faith and grace
I seek rest
From God above
For only through Him
Can I continue to love
And live and dream
and hope
By His mercy I remain
Calm and rested
