That Person Mattered

By Valerie Maldonado

Someone left this world today
Their earthly body went away
They may be everything to you
Or just someone you once knew
Be it friend, family or foe
Today's the day they let go

Maybe you haven't spoke in years
Doesn't mean you won't shed tears
It could be they were your enemy
It matters not the day they leave
And if they meant the world to you
You wonder how you'll make it through
Regardless of who they were
Acquaintance, co-worker or lover
Even if you don't know them
They were someone's everything

So take a moment to pay respect
For the day a mother gave birth and wept
It matters not who they were
Black or white,  rich or poor
Someone left this world today
Their earthly body went away
If you care little or your heart is shattered
Either way that person mattered
