Daily Routines

Get up
Brush your teeth
Shower
Get dressed
Go to work, go to school

This might be the average morning routine for most people.  Perhaps you also drink a cup of coffee, maybe you shower at night so that you have time to read a scripture or meditate, or maybe you get your kids ready for school, but everyone usually rises and gets prepared to greet the day.

Very mundane, boring, typical routine to face each day.  Probably each step is such a habit you don't even realize you are doing them.  But what if you couldn't do them?

Have you ever given much thought to how life would be if everything you needed to accomplish was a struggle?  I guess I am thinking about this today because lately I have been dealing with vertigo.  According to medicine.net vertigo is a sense of rotation, rocking, or the world spinning, experienced even when someone is perfectly still.  In other words a person with vertigo is experiencing dizziness.

If you recall being dizzy after being on a carnival ride, you may remember that you felt off balance, maybe nauseous, and the world around you was spinning.  Not a very good feeling.  Now try imagining dealing with a dizzy feeling while trying to sleep...

Get up
Brush your teeth
Shower
Get dressed
Go to work, school

As you may imagine, it makes the mundane, boring, or typical very hard to do.  I am hopeful my vertigo will disappear in a short amount of time but for many people, those who are disabled for example, they face challenges that affect their daily routines.  Each chore, each day, each morning and night bring new difficulties.  What we consider tedious, daily activities are mountains to climb for those who cannot accomplish these activities in the "typical" fashion.

So the next time you feel frustrated over making the bed one more time, finding your child's shoe at the last minute, looking for the keys you are holding in your hand or simply stretching, yawning and placing the blanket back over your head because you dread the day...remind yourself how fortunate you truly are.

How fortunate it is to be healthy, to be free, to be ALIVE!

Always grateful,
Valerie
