Be Your Own Valentine

St. Valentine's Day...began as a liturgical story involving the imprisonment and execution of a christian saint and his healing of his jailer's daughter...

...today it involves candy, teddy bears and very expensive roses.

...but only if you have a significant other?

Valentine's Day has never been one of my favorite holidays. My view is, love should be felt, expressed and embraced 365 days a year.  Some people feel this way about Mother's and Father's Day.

Still there is a delightful feeling one gets, when asked to be a special someone's valentine, an "aw" moment.

How do you celebrate it though, if you do not have a significant other, or just broke up with the love of your life?

Be your own Valentine.

  1. Buy yourself some flowers.
  2. Treat yourself to a spa treatment.
  3. Buy a gift card "for yourself" from your favorite store and splurge!
  4. Pamper yourself...ALL day.
  5. Invite a girlfriend to eat at a restaurant you've been wanting to go to.
  6. Do something for someone else.
  7. Be nostalgic and send "little valentine" cards to friends.
  8. Say "I love you" to those you love, grandparents, friends, children, parents, etc.
  9. Get a new haircut, try a new hair color.
  10. Do something you love to do but never have time.

The list is open to your imagination, but whatever you do, please don't believe you are the only person in the world spending the day alone.

Everyone goes through a time period when they are not romantically involved with someone. What is important to remember is that you do not need "a significant other" to make you feel cherished, loved, and special.

You already are!

Happy Valentine's Day,
Valerie
