Loving Life

Life as we all know can be very complicated, difficult and demanding. Did I mention complicated?  But life is also very beautiful, fun and exciting if we choose it to be.

Yes choosing to love life.  We may not love everything that happens to us in life, but one only needs to remember the alternative is death, and it becomes easy to choose.  And depending on your view of what occurs after death, who wouldn't choose to love life, this seemingly one opportunity to live life to the fullest.

Think about all that we are given in life, for free:

Life itself
Free Will
A Voice
Emotions
Senses
Laughter
Feelings
A brain to think
A body we can create upon
People who love us simply for who we are
The ability to dream (both awake and in sleep)
A conscience
The ability to remember
The ability to grow
A heart to love
Hope
Time

There are more examples I am sure, but my thought is this...take a moment today to truly reflect on all the opportunities of life that we are afforded.  All the wonderful abilities we have and the many more we can cultivate and learn.  Unfortunately there are many who do not have free will (slavery), or are lacking one of the senses (deaf, blind).  There are many others who are denied time (those who die young) and still others who have no voice (marginalized people).

This should leave us profoundly grateful for what we have.  Freedom, health, family, friends should all come before wealth and material things.  If we have some form of spiritual life, we should consider ourselves even more blessed, since many are denied this gift as well.

Life's challenges can be so difficult at times, we fall to our knees and convince ourselves it will never get better.  It does not have to be that way. The love of family and friends, belief in God, laughter, forgiveness, acceptance, reaching out to others in need, and time are just some of the ways that can help us all overcome even our darkest of days.  If we are fortunate our darkest days provide us clarity, allowing us to learn and grow from our experiences.

So I hope you choose to love life.  Look at the scars from your darkest days as proof of your endurance and ability to pull through and move forward.  Let these scars remind you, when faced with a new difficulty, that "this too shall pass."

"When life give you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile." ~ Unknown.

Loving life,
Valerie
